Acquisition cost. Base-model trucks and vans can be comparable, but specialized service bodies, cranes, or heavy equipment push truck costs higher. Tall-roof vans and advanced safety tech add to van pricing. Always budget for the upfit itself, not just the vehicle.
Operating cost. Trucks that carry more weight and roll on heavy-duty tires may incur higher fuel and wear costs. Vans can offer better fuel economy on route-heavy work, especially when loads are moderate. Service access differs by platform, so factor in how your technicians or service partners handle routine maintenance.
Resale and reuse. You may be able to reuse some shelving, drawers, or racks in your next van. Truck bodies can be transferable in certain cases, but not all. Keep future flexibility in mind when you plan fleet vehicle upfitting so you can recover value later.
